Can you believe it? The Winter Holidays are here again. Once again, fond childhood memories start to resurface and along with them memories of those who are no longer here to celebrate with us. Where does the time go? In the mean time, life goes on and doesn't seem to get any easier - always a challenge. The news is full of them. Unemployment and the economy, WikiLeaks' current storm, and scandals in Congress. Never a dull moment. But one thing's for sure, there's nothing new under the sun. Each of us has to blaze his/her trail and hopefully find the path to the right corner - the story of humanity. It's no small wonder that there are so many quotes, givng inspiration, bits of wisdom or simply the strength to grin & bear it.

Is it already Back To School time again? Time does fly; and after this long hot summer it will be nice to enjoy some cooler weather - we hope. Those going back to school (or have already gone back) are no dpubt gearing up to return to the studying routine - new books, supplies, clothing, seeing old friends again, meeting new friends & learning new things. Makes me feel very nostalgic. As an aging Boomer, it's sometimes hard to find something to look forward to or get excited about - keep the gears from getting rusty. What a shame youth is wasted on the young.

Summertime is here and it's already been too hot for too long. Even the astrological picture is hot with tension indicating that balance will not be easily achieved. And of course we're all aware of the woes of the economy. Frankly, I've heard so many commentaries and discussions that it's hard to know what to believe let alone who to believe. But the bottom line for most of us is a job, ho-hum.

Congratulations Class of 2010! Wishing all success, health and happiness.

Here we are again at graduation seasons-can't believe it. As an aging Boomer, I remember the excitement of high school graduation and anticipation of the future easier than what I had for lunch today. Has it really been that long? Wow! We early 70's grads really thought we'd blaze trails back then, only to be challenged by the economic downturns of the 1973 oil embargo and production slow-downs after the end of the VietNam War. Nonetheless, we wanted peace and justice along with economic security and were certain we'd do a better job at it than the Old Timers of our time. But reality soon spit in our faces, and here we are 40 years later. Do I have any advice for you GenY'ers. Hardly! However in my humble opinion, Baz Luhrmann's advice to the Class of '99 is the best I've ever heard.

Once again we celebrate Earth Day on April 22nd. Hard to believe that the first Earth Day celebration was 40 years ago. I was still in high school and as an aging Boomer remember the day better than yesterday - big morning assembly of lofty and serious presentations. Every class, even advanced math, started with small discussions and solicitations for resolutions to clean up our act. The word 'Ecology' entered our vocabulary and recycling, biodegradable, ozone-friendly became the buzz words for the next few years. Ironically, when the US government required catalytic converters and the use of lead-free gas in 1972 for all cars, nobody was happy about paying the extra cost.

So here we are 40 years later facing many of the same problems and not always happy about the price. Now that we have figured our how to calculate carbon footprints (the total set of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions caused by an organization, event or product), seems like every possible solution presents other challenges in either price, time or space. What to do? Maybe our great grandchildren will figure it out.

Spring is springing, if not now soon. The economy still lacks a lot to be desired; one says up, another down. Will we ever make ends meet? I suppose it's all a matter of THIMK, thinking it all through for one's personal situation and acting accordingly. Hope must spring eternal-what else is there?

In the mean time, Happy Birthday to all you Pisces. Pluto will be in the sign of Capricorn until 2023. This could give you Pisces a serious measure of vim and vigor in the coming years. If history is any teacher at all, you Gen X'ers and Y'ers are in for some challenging changes in your adult years. All in all, its a day to day world.

The Winter Holidays are well behind us; we're back in the old gind. Nonetheless, we're still in the middle of winter - long dark nights, cold days, high energy costs, challenging economic times.

What's the good news? We're only a month from Valentines' Day. As kids, many of us enjoyed exchanging those little printed Valentine cards and celebrating the day by eating enough sugar to sink a battle ship-lots of fun, wasn't it? Of course as grown-ups, we celebrate a lot more modestly - a box of chocolates to the significant other, little treats for the kids. But why not let friends and loved ones know you appreciate the every day? Simple gifts that bring back good memories are often the most treasured - A Valentine For Everyone Everyday. Now that's being nice!
